Donna Finneran of Watertown, Connecticut is honoring her late brother, Brian O’Connell, by taking to the streets to help those in need. O’Connell, her twin brother, died homeless a year and a half ago, so Finneran came up with a way to serve the local homeless in his memory with “Brian Bags.”
It’s officially called The Brian O’Connell Homeless Project and it provides bags filled with toiletries, snacks, a first aid kit, and even gift cards to fast food restaurants - essentials for anyone living on the streets. Finneran makes the bags with donated supplies in her home and delivers them herself almost every day of the week.
"I'm trying to change how people look at the homeless," she said. "to look at the homeless in a different way, that it could be someone's brother, sister, or family member out there."
