Luke Combs Pays Tribute To Toby Keith, Talks Tracy Chapman Performance

Two days after Luke Combs performed a memorable duet with Tracy Chapman at the 66th Annual GRAMMY Awards, the country superstar held a private concert in Nashville. In front of the small audience, Luke talked about his GRAMMY experience, and how tough the GRAMMYs have been for him from a competitive standpoint. Before launching into his hit "Doin' This," Luke told the audience, "This song got me a nomination for a Grammy, but I didn’t win,” Combs said. “I’m zero for seven on those Grammys. It’s tough!" And before playing an acoustic version of "Fast Car," Luke told the crowd, “(Tracy Chapman) is one of my heroes and one of the reasons I started singing. Singing with Tracy was incredible. I did my best. Now you’ve heard Tracy do it, which is way better. But now you get to hear me do it.”

Throughout the evening, Luke was asked by fans in attendance to play some Toby Keith, as the news had broken earlier in the day of Toby's passing. After working through an hour of his own hits, Luke obliged, saying "I’m glad you guys asked because we didn’t know if we should do a Toby song. It’s good to know you love Toby’s music as much as we do." Luke then played "Should've Been A Cowboy," and the crowd sang along, which you can see below.
