At just 14 years old, Charlestown's Maecy Condra, and her horse Rain, has earned a coveted position on the Indiana state National Junior High rodeo team, and she is all set to compete in the prestigious 18th annual National Junior High Finals Rodeo (NJHFR) in Perry, GA.
Maecy's journey into the world of rodeo began at an early age. She was fortunate enough to grow up surrounded by horses, and her love for these magnificent creatures only grew stronger over time. Her first rodeo horse was a rescue horse who was on the brink of being sent to slaughter before Maecy stepped in to save him. It was this horse that ignited her passion for rodeo and set her on a path towards success.
This year marks Maecy's rookie season in the Indiana Junior High School Rodeo Association, and she has already proven herself to be a force to be reckoned with. The NJHFR, which is the largest junior high rodeo in the world, will see around 1,200 contestants from various states in the US, Canadian provinces, Australia, and Mexico vying for top honors. The competition is fierce, with more than $80,000 in prizes and over $200,000 in college scholarships up for grabs. And let's not forget the ultimate dream of being named a National Junior High Finals Rodeo World Champion.
To earn the title of World Champion, contestants must finish in the top 20 based on their combined times or scores in the first two go-rounds, securing their place in the final round on Saturday evening. The world champions will then be determined based on their three go-round combined times or scores. This year's Saturday championship performance will be nationally televised as part of the Cinch High School Rodeo Tour telecast series on RFD-TV, giving Maecy and her fellow competitors well-deserved recognition.
