A Kentucky man had an out of this world reason for causing a panic at a hotel outside of Lexington over the weekend.

Cops in Richmond, Kentucky, were sent to a hotel on Keeneland Drive on Saturday, September 11, at 3 a.m. after someone reported gunfire. The shots were being fired from a hotel room window.

Authorities were able to get the other guests safely out of the hotel before approaching the gunman.

Inside the room where the shots were coming from, cops found Samuel Riddell and a woman hiding inside the bathroom until authorities let her out.

Riddell was taken into custody and later told detectives that "he observed aliens in the parking lot and was shooting at them," the Richmond Police Department wrote in a Facebook post.

Detectives also discovered that Riddell was a convicted felon and was in possession of two handguns and a semi-automatic rifle.

Riddell now faces multiple criminal charges, including criminal mischief, wanton endangerment, and possession of a firearm by a felon.

No injuries were reported in the shooting, but multiple cars in the hotel's parking lot were hit by bullets. A bullet also entered the occupied room next door.
