Maren Morris Explains Why She Was Surprised To Find Out She's Having A Boy

Maren Morris and her husband, Ryan Hurd announced they are expecting their first child, a baby boy on October 22. Morris revealed the big news by sharing a photo from a pregnancy photoshoot to Instagram with a caption saying, "The irony is just too rich that after a year of living in the 'GIRL' headspace, the universe would give us a baby boy to even things out. See you in 2020, little one."

In a recent interview, Morris admits she was initially shocked by the news that she was having a boy instead of a girl. She says that because of the energy she's given off lately with her music and the fact that she's constantly surrounded by women, she assumed it'd be a girl.

"I grew up with one sister, my mom owns a hair salon, so I was just always surrounded by women," Morris explains. "I have an affinity for them. There's women in my band, in my crew."

"I've never really had a male sibling or anything like that, so I had just felt like I'm gonna have a girl 'cause I'm constantly surrounded by women," she says, adding, "And I put a record out this year called GIRL. And nope- the test said it was a boy!"

Although the "My Church" singer was surprised by the news, she goes on to make it clear that she wasn't disappointed either.

“Honestly, I was so happy with either," Morris maintained. "But I’ve heard from a lot of boy moms since we released our news and they’re just like, ‘They love their mothers forever!’"

On Wednesday, November 13 during the 2019 CMA Awards, Morris will join several other iconic female singers for a "historic, not-to-be-missed" opening performance. Each artists will sing part of a country classic in a medley that will span decades.

Morris is also the most-nominated artist at the CMA Awards. She was nominated for six different awards including Single of the Year, Song of the Year and Music Video of the Year. Additionally, she's up for Album of the Year for Girl , Female Vocalist of the Year and Musical Event of the Year for "All My Favorite People" with Brothers Osborne.

The 53rd Annual CMA Awards will air live from Nashville's Bridgestone Arena on Wednesday November 13 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
