Janice Freeman's cause of death has been confirmed.

Per her death certificate, obtained by The Blast, the aspiring singer, who competed on the thirteenth season of The Voice in 2017, died on March 2 from a pulmonary embolism. She was 33.

According to a statement made on her Instagram account, the star, who suffered from Lupus, died from "an extreme case of pneumonia and a blood clot that traveled to her heart." Best known for her time on the singing competition show as part of Miley Cyrus' team, Freeman's reps described her as "a survivor and fighter, and a beautiful force in this world."

Cyrus, who developed a special bond with Freeman both on and behind the scenes of the show, was often a source of moral and financial support for the talented musician and was enthusiastic to sign her to a record label. “I miss you so much it hurts. Everywhere ….. but so did you. So often," the "Malibu" songstress lamented on Instagram in Freeman's memory. "So much pain and no one would ever notice because of the smile and joy you constantly radiated."

"Today we lost a legend,” she continued. “Do you hear me. Everyone got it so wrong on our season together of The Voice because no matter what has been recorded or remembered YOU won my angel.”

Earlier this week, Cyrus paid tribute to Freeman's life and legacy with tearful speech at her memorial service. (Watch it here.)
