LMPD Officer Nick Wilt Leaves Hospital After Four Months of Rehab

LMPD Officer Nick Wilt was finally discharged from U of L Health’s Frazier Rehab on Friday after spending more than four months recovering after being shot in the head April 10 while responding to the Old National Bank shooting. It was an emotional day on Friday for Wilt's family, colleagues and the staff that cared for him.

Wilt was in training at the time of the shooting, having graduated from the police academy just days before. His training officer Cory Galloway fired the shot that killed the gunman. Wilt, 26, was in critical condition for nearly a month, has undergone brain surgery, and battled pneumonia.

The city of St. Matthews is holding a week-long fundraiser for LMPD officer Nick Wilt. The event kicks off on Tuesday, August 1st with St. Matthews Police National Night Out at St. Matthews Community Park from 6:30 to 8:30 pm. There will be a collection booth as well as touch-a-truck, prizes, inflatables, free snow cones, food samples, a dunking booth, tethered balloon rides, a bicycle rodeo, jaws of life demo and more.
