That Jane Austen ring Kelly Clarkson bought last year may never find its way onto the singer's finger.
After the British government put a clamp down on exporting the national treasure this month, there's now word that an anonymous donor is ponying up more money to keep the author's gold and turquoise ring in Britain.
The "Guardian" says the donor recently offered up the equivalent of $154,000 to the Jane Austen House Museum's campaign to save the ring.
Clarkson, an Austen fan, paid $235,000 for the ring at a Soethby's auction last year. The museum has extended an invitation to the Texas-born singer to visit the ring as often as she chooses.
Citing its close connection to British history, Britain's culture minister imposed a temporary export ban on the ring on August 1st.
