LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- A major donation to the University of Louisville is moving a new academic project forward.

Thorntons has made a $3 million donation that is to be matched by the university that will allow the construction of the Thorntons Academic Center of Excellence to be built just under the Norton Terrace on the south end of Papa John's Cardinal Stadium.

The new facility will serve over 750 student athletes, providing them classrooms, study space, and tutoring facilities.

The project is expected to break ground in the spring and take 14 to 16 months to be completed.

The $14 million price tag is being covered by donations and the sales from the commemorative Maker's Mark bottles.
